At the age of 19, she released her debut single Here. It was a hugely acclaimed track by both critics and fans. The song reached the top spot at 19 on the Canadian Hot 100 and Billboard Hot 100. Even Rolling Stone named it one of the most memorable songs of the year. In the same year, she released Know It All. Scars to Your Beautiful is one of five tracks that were the first to reach Billboard's chart. It was different due to the fact that many listeners were able to relate to the interview she did with rapper Rap-Up on her journey to learn to love and be herself. Cara includes messages of kindness and loving yourself throughout her songs. The music that she has written is derived from her own struggle in overcoming mental health issues and insomnia. Reuters reported that she called her album "half turbulent, and half finished". She says she grew through therapy and she encourages anyone else to seek out assistance when needed. Alessia Cara was born to Italian parents on the 11th of July 1996. Her first guitar was purchased from her parents at the time she turned 10 which ignited the passion for music. In 2013, she performed her favorite songs for YouTube the most popular media platform. This was to demonstrate that she had the talent and confidence to pursue a career as an artist. Sweater Weather is among the covers that resulted in her being noticed at the time by EP Entertainment. This record label gave her the opportunity to create new songs of her own.
