Allison Stokke and Alyce Caron
Allison Stokke was born March 22, 1989, in Newport Beach California United States. She is one of the most famous and wealthy pole vaulters. An image of her at a 17-year-old track meet became viral in 2007 and led her to become a pole vaulter. Instagram and Twitter have helped her build a huge social media following. She's an athlete who shares a track record as Jessica Ennis Hill. Los Angeles Times and others reported that Stokke was not one to seek out or encourage such media attention. Brett Hutchins and David Rowe in their book Technology Power and Culture in the Network Society identified Stokke in the context of American soccer player Alex Morgan and Hope Solo, female athletes who they said were sexualized and had their public images presented in a manner as to de-emphasize their sporting accomplishments. Regarding Stokke, they noted that many social media posts were insulting. And blamed sexualization on women. Some drew parallels with Brandi's victory celebration at the FIFA World Cup Final 1999 in her sports t-shirt. Sporting events for women were frequently snubbed by discussions regarding their appearance. Images of Stokke, competing in New York early 2007, were uploaded to the internet by an Californian journalist for a track and field website. With Leather, an online sports magazine with many male readers, commented about Stokke's beauty during this month in May. The article was titled Pole Vaulting: Sexy and Barely Legal. Matt Ufford had threatened to sue the photographer for not taking down the photo. However, the news story had well-known and received much attention. Stokke owned a website dedicated to her with images of her at the pole vault. The photos were shared over social media they attracted many thousands of people.
